All you wanted to know about subwoofers

Not all subwoofers are made by Aurea, but all our Aurea subwoofers are amazing  :-). Today, on our blog we would like to explain some facts about these loudspeakers.

Here we go with some info about subwoofers.

  • A subwoofer is a complete loudspeaker dedicated to the reproduction of low-pitched audio frequencias known as bass.
  • The frequency range for a subwoofer, typically is about 20-200 Hz for consumer products, below 100 Hz for professional live sound and below 80 Hz in THX approved systems.
  • The term subwoofer often refers to a subwoofer driver mounted in a cabinet, but technically only refers to the speaker driver.
  • They are made up of one or more woofers mounted in a loudspeaker enclosure, generally made of wood, which can withstand air pressure while resisting deformation.
  • Subwoofers enclosures come in different designs, such as bass reflex, accoustic suspension, infinity baffle, horn-loaded, bandpass…
  • The first subwoofers were developed in the 1960s to add bass response to home stereo systems and became very popular in the 1970s with the introduction of Sensurround in movies.
  • Home audio, car audio, cinema sound, sound reinforcement are the main applications for the subwoofers.
